Prior to joining UF in 1999, Dr. Sigmund worked at the Powdermetallurgical Laboratory (PML) of the Max-Planck-Institute for Metals Research. After getting his degree in chemistry at the University of Heidelberg (Germany) he worked on colloidal particle systems at the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz with Prof. G. Wegner. He was awarded Dr. rer. nat. from the Gutenberg-University of Mainz and then held 2 post-doctoral positions in 1992 and 1993: at RIKEN in Japan in the Frontiers of Nanoscience Program and in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Florida working with Dr. Duran on nanolayer synthesis and assembly. He has published more than 150 papers on processing of materials on all length scales (nano, meso, micro, macro), ceramics and polymers at interfaces and is also active in patents.
